According to the morphology barrier lakes may be divided into two groups: 1) lake basins in the mountain valleys, the area doesn't exceed several km2, 2) large lakes in the depressions, having the area more then 10 km2. According to the dam type there are 5 classes of lakes: 1) collapselandslide, 2) moraine-dammed, 3) lava-dammed, 4) formed by tectonic antithetic fault, 5) periglacial.
