Evolution of the small valley system in climatic rythme "glaciation-interglaciatiop"
Abstract
A Mikulino buried balks was inherited from a Middle Pleistocene paleo-landform. It originated at the end of the Moscow glaciation and underwent a series of transformations from flat-bottom hollow or dell to a stable balks system at the interglacial time, then it was filled with sediments during the 1st half of the Valdai glaciation and completely buried during the 2nd half of glaciation, changing from linear hollow to circular flat-bottom depression and finally flat surface. The buried balks are not directly inherited by the present-day landform. The modern erosional form is simpler in pattern and shifted northeastward from the Mikulino one. However, under conditions of the Central Russian Highland the buried small erosional landforms occur rather close to the day surface and may influence indirectly the modern soil and topographic pattern.
