N-Q geodynamics of the Novaya Zemlya mountains and adjacent sea bottom according to the results of morphostructural analysis

Abstract

On the base of morphostructural analysis of the Novaya Zemlya and Vaigach islands and adjacent Barents Sea and Kara Sea shelves the intensity of neotectonic movements in the region was evaluated. Relative intensity and direction of lateral movements of thrust and shear type were determined for the first time. The author traces similarity of neo-geodynamic processes here to a kind of seduction, which is taking place in the extremely weak form.
